Accused Stalker Asked: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with pursuing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned call records and evidence retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most covered missing child cases and is still open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I know what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am she? What then? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a existence here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.
The jury was informed that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a effort to display a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I will prove my position."
The court was informed the co-defendant developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in the county in that winter.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the trip to Rothley, the county, in that winter.
The court was told correspondence between the two accused, in November 2024, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from silverware at a restaurant.
