Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
