Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year following instigating insulting taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds finished through agreement this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has struggled with injury in recent years.
