Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
