The Streaming Platform is Developing a Popular Game TV Series from the Creators of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The most recent action-packed game that players dived into was Far Cry 6, which featured Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and came out during October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is known for celebrating chaos and mayhem with similar glee, all while presenting captivating, politically driven narratives. It’s no surprise that FX's new order for a Far Cry anthology series brought on board two visionaries whose creations have embodied all of those qualities.

About the Series

Adapted from Ubisoft's popular video game property, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The anthology will also follow the video games' format by introducing a different location and cast of characters in subsequent series.

Creative Minds

Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as lead producers on the series via their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.

We’ve shared excellent collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are working together for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to thank our collaborators at Ubisoft for placing confidence in us with this popular property.”

What’s Next

Mac will also star in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what role that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just approved for more episodes, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new overall deal with the showrunner.

“Having the opportunity with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, trusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX partners constantly supports me with their steady belief and backing.”

“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology show. Each game is a take of a idea, the same way every series of Fargo is a version on a story,” noted Hawley. “To produce a big action show that can shift from one instalment to the next, while always delving into the core of humanity through this complex and turbulent viewpoint, is a dream come true. I’m eager to partner with Rob and present our shared irreverent, ambitious approach to the screen.”

A release window for when we can anticipate the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
